Pump prices seen mixed again next week: diesel down about ₱2 a litre, gasoline up about ₱2.20
Estimates show diesel falling ₱1.80 to ₱2 per litre and gasoline rising ₱2 to ₱2.20 next week (GMA News, Manila Bulletin, Philstar, Manila Times). The DOE finalises on Monday. This week, effective October 6: gasoline +₱1.93, diesel −₱1.30, kerosene +₱3.30 (Rappler, Philstar). WTI closed at $91.85 (+0.39%) on Friday.
Fuel prices feed into fares, food transport and electricity, so even mixed changes shape inflation, which hit 7.2 percent in September.
Diesel users, such as jeepney and truck operators, get relief while car and motorcycle owners pay more. Prices change on Tuesday morning, so gasoline users may prefer to fill up before then.
Cheaper diesel can lower freight costs and soften food prices.
Gasoline increases hit commuters and motorists directly, and the diesel gains may fade if oil rises.
The split between fuels matters more than the average. Watch whether diesel keeps falling for a third week, since that feeds into food prices.
