PSEi rebounds 1.61 percent to 5,700.99 as bargain hunters return; peso eases off its record low to ₱62.801

The PSEi closed at 5,700.99 on October 9 (+90.60 points, +1.61%), with 120 gainers against 57 decliners (Inquirer). The peso ended at ₱62.801, up 9.9 centavos from ₱62.90 (Daily Tribune). Analyst Ron Acoba of Trading Edge called it a technical rebound with support at 5,584-5,600. Turnover was ₱4.73 billion per the Inquirer and ₱7.82 billion per Philstar, which includes extraordinary block sales.

A bounce after a 2.2 percent fall shows buyers stepping in at low prices, but the index is still near its lowest in about 11 months and rate-hike worries have not gone away.

A one-day rebound should not change plans. Prices of imports still depend on the peso, which remains near ₱62.8.

The rebound across all sectors suggests oversold conditions rather than panic.

Analysts say the trend is still down, and the October 22 central bank meeting and U.S. rates are ahead.

Two data points frame next week: support near 5,600 and the peso's ₱62.90 record. A break of either sets the tone before the BSP decision.
