Houthi strike on Riyadh’s main airport kills 12 and wounds more than 300; Filipinos among the injured, DMW says

A missile and drone attack on King Khalid International Airport on October 10 killed 12 and wounded 309, according to Saudi authorities (AP, BBC). The Houthis claimed it and warned people to avoid Saudi airports; the coalition reported another projectile at Terminal 4 on October 11 (Reuters, Guardian, Bloomberg). The DMW said between two and four Filipinos were injured, three in intensive care (Inquirer, Philstar, Manila Times). Saudi stocks fell and oil executives pulled out of a Riyadh energy congress (Reuters, FT).

Riyadh is a hub for flights, energy business and the largest Filipino worker communities in the Gulf. Attacks on civilian airports raise risks for travel and oil supply.

Families with relatives in Saudi Arabia should contact the DMW or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. Flights via Riyadh may be cancelled or rerouted.

Saudi Arabia and its allies say the strikes are terrorism and justify a response.

The Houthis say the airports are legitimate targets in their conflict with the coalition; most governments rejected that.

Casualty counts for Filipinos changed during the day, so use the DMW as the single source. Watch for coalition retaliation and for airline decisions on Riyadh this week.
