Three of four Filipinos hurt in the Riyadh airport attack remain in intensive care; no deployment ban, but avoid non-essential travel
The DMW said four Filipinos were injured in the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport, with three in intensive care and at least one critical (Manila Times, Inquirer, Philstar). Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said there is no deployment ban on workers bound for Saudi Arabia but advised avoiding non-essential travel (Inquirer, GMA News, BusinessWorld). The DMW and OWWA are assisting 94 workers whose flights were diverted to Jeddah, and PAL suspended Riyadh flights until November 29 (Inquirer). Saudi authorities said 12 people died and more than 300 were wounded (Philstar).
Saudi Arabia hosts one of the largest groups of overseas Filipino workers, and money they send home supports many families. Attacks on airports also disrupt the flights they rely on and push oil prices.
If you have family in Saudi Arabia, follow DMW advisories and check airline notices before travel. Workers already there are not barred from staying or returning.
The government says a ban is unnecessary and workers can continue under advisories.
Some may argue a stricter pause is safer while attacks continue; the DMW has not taken that step.
A ‘no ban’ policy puts the burden on information. Watch for updated advisories, the condition of the injured, and whether the airport reopens normal operations.
