Involuntary hunger rises to 22.6 percent in the third quarter, SWS finds

The Social Weather Stations reported that involuntary hunger rose to 22.6 percent in the third quarter of 2026 (Philstar, GMA News). Remate reported that SWS also found self-rated poverty rose to 55 percent, or about 16.8 million families, in September. DailyDrop has not seen the previous quarter’s figure in the reports reviewed.

Hunger counts people who said they had nothing to eat at least once in the period, so it shows how far prices and incomes are straining households.

Expect the figure to be cited in debates over rice prices, wages and the El Niño response.

Read the hunger figure beside the harvest warning from the Philippine Statistics Authority. Lower rice output would push the wrong way.
