Meralco’s October rate rises to ₱15.0615 per kWh, about ₱64 more for a 200-kWh household
Meralco announced that its October rate rises to ₱15.0615 per kilowatt-hour from ₱14.7424 in September, which adds about ₱64 to the bill of a residential customer using 200 kWh (Manila Times). Philstar said more than eight million customers should expect higher bills because of an increase in generation charges, and Rappler also reported the rise. Separately, Philstar reported that the ERC has suspended trading in the power reserve market, citing persistently high ancillary-service prices, especially in the Visayas.
Electricity is one of the largest regular household bills, and generation charges follow the cost of fuel and of buying power. The reserve market lets generators sell back-up capacity, so its suspension adds uncertainty over how those prices will be set.
Check your next bill. A household using 200 kWh pays about ₱64 more than in September.
A regular monthly rise is not the same as the ₱2.64-billion refund the ERC ordered earlier this week. Read the generation-charge line on your bill to see which one you are looking at.
