Inflation eases to 10.26% in September but stays in double digits as fuel and power bite
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data reported by ProPakistani show headline CPI inflation at 10.26% in September, from 11.15% in August, in line with a Bloomberg survey estimate of 10.2%. Core inflation eased to about 8.6%. IANS reported petrol up 39% and electricity up 33% year on year. First-quarter FY27 average inflation is 10.20%, against 4.30% a year earlier.
Double-digit inflation squeezes wages and keeps interest rates high. The State Bank raised its policy rate in April, citing oil.
Prices of fuel and power are the main drivers of the household budget.
Officials say inflation can average 7.5% this fiscal year if global conditions stabilise.
Analysts say energy pass-through will keep it elevated until December.
The September drop is mostly base effect and food. Energy is the reason it will not fall quickly.
