Day two of the PTI march: Afridi speaks in Karak and the convoy reaches Kohat, with the route altered to visit Khyber

On Monday 5 October the PTI convoy under Chief Minister Sohail Afridi travelled from Karak to Kohat (ARY News, Minute Mirror). Afridi addressed supporters in Karak and again at University Chowk in Kohat. He said the plan to move directly towards Peshawar had been changed after people in Khyber asked the marchers to visit. Al Jazeera put the numbers who set off on Sunday at more than 5,000. PTI says the convoy should reach Khairabad on Thursday 8 October. No clashes were reported.

The march is the largest challenge to the federal government since the failed talks, and it is happening in a province already facing militant attacks.

Roads and mobile data in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the twin cities may be disrupted.

PTI says it is exercising a lawful right to protest for the release of Imran Khan.

The government says the march is meant to pressure the state and cannot enter Islamabad.

The route change buys PTI days and keeps the story moving. The test is Thursday, when it must choose between continuing and negotiating.
