Markets: Pakistan’s Monday close not confirmed; oil up 2% on Monday as Wall Street holds near a record
Pakistan’s Monday market figures were not confirmed in two independent sources. On Friday the Dow closed at 51,654.95 (+0.83%) (Reuters via Straits Times) and WTI at $91.85 (FinancialJuice); other Friday figures supplied to DailyDrop (S&P 500, Nasdaq, gold) were not confirmed twice. On Monday WTI settled at $93.74 (+2.06%) (FinancialJuice, ANSA). US stocks traded mixed near record highs (SMH, Telegraaf); final Monday closes were not confirmed.
A rising oil price and a strong dollar are the two forces that most directly pressure Pakistan’s rupee and its import bill. Equity markets in Karachi react first to domestic politics, then to oil.
If you hold dollar-linked savings or plan to send or receive remittances, watch the interbank and open-market rates; DailyDrop will print them only when two sources agree.
Optimists point to Wall Street near a record as a sign global risk appetite is intact.
Sceptics say a strong dollar and oil above $90 are a poor mix for import-dependent economies like Pakistan.
The honest line is a dash: we do not print a KSE-100 or rupee number we cannot confirm twice. Tuesday’s session will show how the market reads the KP emergency.
