US floats unfreezing some Russian assets to restart Ukraine peace talks

The Financial Times reported that US negotiators put to European officials, at a meeting in Miami, a proposal to unfreeze some Russian assets to revive peace talks on Ukraine, and that the Europeans balked. Reuters carried the FT report, and FinancialJuice relayed that European officials rejected the plan.

The frozen assets are a main bargaining chip for both sides. Europe holds much of them and has so far refused to let them go without Russian concessions.

No direct effect; a peace deal would ease energy and food prices, which matter to Pakistan.
