Japan's PM Takaichi pledges fiscal discipline as the debt bill rises

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi pledged fiscal discipline and outlined her policy plans in a speech to the Diet on Monday, CNA, the Business Times and the Straits Times reported. The Business Times noted that Japan's debt-service bill is rising as bond yields climb.

Japan is the world's largest creditor and a major investor in Asian markets. Its interest rates and bond yields ripple into Singapore's markets.

Rising Japanese yields can pull money out of Asian assets and weigh on local share prices.

The next test is her first budget and whether the Bank of Japan raises rates.
