Anwar meets Myanmar's leader and pledges to help bring Myanmar back into ASEAN
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met Myanmar's Min Aung Hlaing for talks on migrant repatriation, CNA reported, and Malaysia pledged to work towards Myanmar's full reintegration into ASEAN. The Straits Times reported that the red-carpet welcome in Kuala Lumpur sparked outrage but signalled a shifting ASEAN stance.
ASEAN has kept Myanmar's military leaders at arm's length since the 2021 coup. A change would affect the whole bloc.
Singapore's position will be watched at the next ASEAN meetings.
