Pope Leo names Cardinal Tagle of the Philippines the first Asian dean of cardinals
Pope Leo approved Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of the Philippines as dean of the College of Cardinals, the first Asian to hold the post (Reuters, ST). AP said the appointment lays groundwork for a future conclave.
The dean leads the cardinals during a papal succession, so the choice carries symbolic weight for Asia's Catholics.
Of interest to Singapore's Catholic community and the wider region.
A symbolic step; watch how it shapes the conclave.
