Houthi missile attack hits Riyadh's main airport, with injuries reported and flights cancelled

A loud blast hit King Khalid International Airport on Saturday amid escalating missile strikes on Saudi Arabia by Yemen's Houthi group (Reuters, Straits Times). The Guardian said dozens were reported injured; the Saudi civil aviation authority said several were hurt and operations were paused (relayed by FinancialJuice). The NYT called it a second attack on the airport after a week of strikes. Kuwait Airways, Air India and Air India Express cancelled flights, and US and UK embassies urged citizens to avoid the airport. Reuters said organisers of major Saudi conferences plan to proceed.

Riyadh's airport is a hub for the Gulf and a symbol of the kingdom's economic push. Attacks on civilian aviation raise insurance costs, disrupt routes and add to oil-market risk.

Check flights if you are due to transit the Gulf. Singapore has condemned Houthi attacks on civilian aviation, and any oil spike would show up in fuel costs.

Confirmed casualty numbers differ across reports, so treat the totals as provisional. Watch whether the airport reopens, whether Saudi Arabia responds, and whether oil prices react on Monday.
