Trump announces an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine; Kyiv says it supports it but awaits details

Donald Trump announced on Truth Social on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an "energy ceasefire" and urged both not to break it (Reuters, BBC, CNA, Straits Times). Zelenskiy said on Telegram that he had spoken to Mark Carney, Alex Stubb and Mark Rutte and that Ukraine supports the ceasefire; The Week quoted him calling the announcement "news to me", and FinancialJuice said Ukraine awaits details from the US. Zelenskiy said Ukraine will stop hitting Russian refineries if Russia halts its energy attacks (Reuters). He told ABC he would organise elections if Russia agreed to a 60-day ceasefire (Reuters). Germany backed him after Trump called for his removal (Reuters, Straits Times), and Senator Thom Tillis said Trump's Russian diesel deal may be illegal (Reuters, Straits Times). DailyDrop has not seen a Kremlin statement.

Attacks on refineries and power plants hit fuel supply and prices, so a real halt could ease energy markets; but the deal is announced by one side and unclear in its terms.

Fuel prices and shipping costs track oil. WTI closed Friday at US$91.85, so watch Monday's open for any move on the news.

A limited ceasefire on energy targets is a realistic first step that both sides could accept.

Without Moscow's confirmation or a monitoring system, it is only a claim, and the diesel deal and the call to remove Zelenskiy complicate trust.

Treat this as an announcement, not a ceasefire, until Moscow and Kyiv both confirm the terms. Watch the Kremlin's reply and whether strikes on energy sites stop.
