Pre-school teachers to get two protected hours a week from November 2027
Pre-school teachers in Singapore will get at least two hours a week away from teaching duties, from November 2027, to plan lessons and engage parents (CNA, Straits Times). The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) said the two hours is not a cap and that centres able to offer more are encouraged to do so (CNA). The Straits Times described the time as protected, for non-teaching tasks.
Planning and parent contact are real work that often happens after hours. Protected time is aimed at easing teacher workload and improving lesson quality.
If you have a child in pre-school, expect teachers to be available for planning and parent engagement but possibly not in the classroom at set times; centres will need to schedule cover. DailyDrop has not seen how fees or staffing will change.
Watch how centres arrange cover without raising fees, and how ECDA will check that the two hours are really protected.
