The night of October 9: Russia launched 136 strike UAVs, more than 90 of them jet-powered Shaheds (Ukrainska Pravda, TSN, Slovo i Dilo, Fakty). Air defense neutralized 114 drones; hits were recorded at 8 locations, falling debris at 7. In Zaporizhzhia a man was killed, five were wounded, among them a child. In the Kyiv region warehouses were hit, three people were hurt. In Ivano-Frankivsk one person was killed. Separately, the General Staff reported 211 combat clashes on the front over the day.
Jet-powered Shaheds fly faster and higher than ordinary ones and are harder for mobile groups to shoot down; this changes the requirements for air defense and for interceptors. An attack like this has already become the norm, not the exception.
Night alerts remain an ordinary part of life; keep your phone charged and a supply of water and a power bank at hand. In the Kyiv region and Zaporizhzhia, follow the announcements of the regional military administration.
The high share of downed targets shows that air defense is working and that interceptors and mobile groups are acting effectively.
The loss of life in several cities in a single night shows that even over 80% interception does not prevent losses if the drones are jet-powered and fast.
One night is not a trend, but the share of jet-powered drones in this attack exceeded two thirds. We will see whether new interceptors appear and whether there will be enough of them by winter.

On October 9 Trump announced on Truth Social that Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to the US and world markets. Kyiv Post writes that Kyiv replied: easing sanctions on Russian diesel will not bring peace, and called for an energy truce; Ukrainian strikes on refineries continue. Analysts, according to the FT via Kyiv Post, doubt that Russia will fulfill its export promises: refining is running at 60% of capacity. Earlier Trump urged Kyiv not to strike fuel targets; Zelensky denied that an agreement existed (Newsweek, Ukrainska Pravda).
If the US eases sanctions on diesel, Russia will gain foreign-currency revenue and Ukraine will lose leverage. At the same time, a diesel shortage pushes prices up around the world.
Expensive diesel means costlier transport and food. For Ukrainians, what matters is whether filling-station prices stay unchanged.
Supporters of the move say the diesel shortage needs to be reduced, and that supplies from Russia would help bring fuel prices down.
Kyiv maintains that this is a weakness of sanctions policy, which gives Moscow money for the war.
We are waiting for a document: a US Treasury license or another act. For now there is only a post and statements, and that is not an agreement. We are also watching whether Russia can actually raise exports with refining at 60%.

Trump announces Russian diesel deliveries; Kyiv: easing sanctions will not bring peace
On October 9 Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel to the American and world markets. He gave no terms of the deal; we have not seen a published text of any agreement. Kyiv Post writes that the Ukrainian side then said that easing sanctions on Russian diesel will not bring peace, and called for an energy truce (Kyiv Post).
According to the Financial Times, relayed by Kyiv Post, Kyiv will keep striking Russian refineries, and analysts doubt that Moscow can deliver on its export promises, since refining is running at roughly 60% of capacity. Earlier Trump publicly asked Kyiv not to strike fuel targets, and Zelensky denied that any agreement on energy strikes had been reached (Newsweek, Ukrainska Pravda).
