Anne Carson, Canadian poet and essayist, wins the Nobel Prize in Literature
The Swedish Academy awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature to Anne Carson, according to AP and the New York Times. The Times noted that Princeton, which celebrated the win, once denied her tenure, and ran guides to her work. The Academy's full citation and prize amount were not in the reports we reviewed.
Carson's work crosses poetry, essay and translation of Greek classics. The prize puts a formally difficult writer in front of a wide audience.
If you want to read her, the Times suggests starting with her essays and translations.
The Peace Prize follows on Friday morning.
