Three weeks out, polls look bad for Republicans. Trump says he will be blamed if the party loses

NBC News reported that, bracing for the Nov. 3 midterm elections, Trump said he will be blamed if Republicans lose. USA Today said new polls raise alarms for him and his party, the Financial Times said its poll shows he has not stopped a decline in popularity, and The New York Times wrote that economic pain and an unpopular president have Republicans on their heels. Politico cited a poll suggesting even an end to the war or lower gas prices may not save them. Trump held a rally in Tennessee with Kid Rock, Fox News and CBS reported, and The Hill said he will visit Montana and Arizona next week. On Truth Social he wrote that Republicans will win because he is popular.

The midterms decide control of Congress, which controls spending, investigations and confirmations for the last two years of the term.

Prices, gasoline and the war are the issues polls say matter most. Early and mail voting is already under way in many states, so check your state’s deadlines.

Midterm polls often swing late, and the president’s rallies may energize the base.

Polls show cost-of-living anger, and a president’s weak approval has historically cost his party seats.

Polls are snapshots. Watch fuel prices, turnout in the Senate races and whether Republicans keep campaigning with the president or distance themselves.
