Fuel price rise takes effect on Wednesday: R3.33 more for 95 petrol, inland price R30.25

As announced on 4-5 October by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, petrol 95 rises R3.33 a litre and 93 rises R3.12 from Wednesday 7 October. Inland 95 is R30.25 and coastal R29.38. Diesel (0.05%) rises R2.84 and 0.005% diesel R3.24 per most reports. The S&P Global PMI report linked weaker orders to uncertainty about fuel prices. No new official figures have been published since the announcement.

Fuel drives transport and food costs, and customers are already holding back, according to the PMI.

Fill up on Tuesday if you can. A 50-litre tank costs about R165 more from Wednesday.

The effect on inflation will show in the October CPI. Watch taxi fares first.
