Zelenskyy condemns the US waiver that lets Russia sell diesel
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the US decision to ease sanctions on Russian diesel, saying relief without a commitment from Russia to de-escalate will prolong the war (Eastern Herald, MercoPress). The Treasury waived the sanctions through April 2027 under a general licence, and Trump said Russia would supply large volumes.
The waiver is aimed at lowering fuel prices but could ease pressure on Moscow.
South African diesel prices follow the global market; any real change would come with a lag.
Both the volumes and the effect on prices are unproven.
