Trump wrote on Truth Social on October 8 that the US will not attack Iran before the November 3 elections, that talks are productive and that the naval blockade continues (Infobae, La Nación, Perfil). He said 22 million barrels passed through Hormuz with no Iranian cargo. The Atlantic had reported that the White House asked the Pentagon for military options; CBS said they had not yet been defined. Brent rose 4.07% to about US04.28 and WTI 3.60% to US$91.50 on attacks on tankers and a hurricane that disrupted more than 510,000 barrels a day. Iran will respond “in a few days” to the latest peace proposal.
It shapes the risk of an escalation before the US elections and the price of oil, which affects fuel and inflation around the world.
If crude stays above US00, sooner or later it shows up in gasoline prices and transport costs, even though Argentina is an energy exporter.
Trump’s supporters see a sign of moderation and openness to dialogue ahead of the elections.
His critics see a promise with an expiry date: no attack before November 3, but the blockade continues and there is no deal.
The announcement lowers the risk of an immediate attack, not the risk of an escalation. Watch Iran’s response, the attacks on tankers and the price of Brent. A promise tied to the election calendar is fragile.

Trump said on Truth Social that the US will not attack Iran before the November 3 elections, but keeps the blockade; Brent rose 4% on Thursday
The announcement came after it emerged that the White House had asked the Pentagon for military options. Crude had jumped on attacks on tankers off Qatar and a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.
US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday, October 8, that his country will not attack Iran at any point before the November 3 legislative elections, and described the talks with Tehran as “productive,” according to Infobae, La Nación and Perfil. The naval blockade of Iranian exports will remain in force. Trump said that 22 million barrels of crude passed through Hormuz the night before, none of it originating in or bound for Iran. The announcement followed reports from The Atlantic, which said the White House had asked the Pentagon for options to strike Iranian targets before the vote, and from CBS, which said the scale and the targets had not yet been defined.
In the market, Brent gained 4.07% on Thursday and closed at around US$104.28, according to Infobae, on attacks on tankers, including one off Qatar, and on a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico that disrupted more than 510,000 barrels a day of production. WTI rose 3.60% to US$91.50. Iran said it will respond “in a few days” to Washington’s latest peace proposal. After Trump’s announcement, Brent gave back close to 1%, to US$103.2, before European stock markets opened. DailyDrop could not verify how much of the decline holds.

The Government appealed Cormick’s ruling on Thursday, October 8, in a 42-page brief signed by Human Capital and the Treasury Attorney’s Office (Ámbito, La Nación). It argues that applying the law would require reallocating 90.30% of the appropriations for primary spending and that Congress should have identified the source of funding; it challenges the collective amparo (Perfil). Infobae reported a complaint against Deputy Itaí Hagman and four other people over the takeover of the Pizzurno Palace. The earlier injunction remains in force.
The university conflict has dragged on for weeks and strains relations between the Executive, the courts and Congress. The cost the Government claims is far above the Congressional Budget Office’s estimate (0.23% of GDP).
If you study or work at a public university, classes and salaries depend on this conflict being resolved; strike action is possible.
Supporters of the law say the Government is using inflated figures to avoid complying with a law passed by two thirds.
The Government maintains there is no source of funding and that complying would put fiscal balance at risk.
Two numbers are in dispute: 0.23% of GDP according to Congress and 90.30% of available appropriations according to the Executive. They measure different things, and it is worth seeing which one the court adopts. Follow the university mobilization of October 15.

The Government appealed the ruling ordering the university law to be applied: it says it would mean reallocating 90.30% of available appropriations
The Human Capital Ministry and the Treasury Attorney’s Office filed the appeal against the ruling by Judge Martín Cormick on Thursday, October 8, in a 42-page brief, according to Ámbito, Perfil and La Nación. The Government argues that applying the University Financing Law would require reallocating 90.30% of the appropriations available for the State’s primary spending, and that Congress should have identified the source of funding. It also argues that a collective amparo was not the proper route, according to Perfil.
Infobae reported that the Government filed a criminal complaint against Deputy Itaí Hagman, of Grabois’s group, and four other people over the takeover of the Pizzurno Palace, seat of the Ministry of Education. University representatives said the Secretary of Education had to leave a meeting at the request of Sandra Pettovello, according to Ámbito. DailyDrop has not yet seen the judge’s decision on the effect of the appeal.
