Hurricane Simon and storm Rachel: Mexico's toll still unsettled

Reuters reported that Hurricane Simon crawled along Mexico's Pacific coast, bringing floods and evacuations. Radio-Canada reported one death, and Le Devoir reported two deaths from Simon and said Rachel flooded parts of the United States. A later French-language report put the toll from tropical storm Rachel in Mexico at four and said it also damaged parts of California. The counts differ and the reports come from different hours, so we treat the toll as unsettled.

Canadians visit Mexico's Pacific coast in large numbers, and storms can disrupt flights and resorts.

If you are travelling there, check with your airline and tour operator.

The numbers to watch are a single official toll and the flight schedules.
