Public sector unions have called national strike days for 14 and 21 October, and say no talks are under way
Public sector unions plan a one-day national strike with pickets on Wednesday 14 October and another on 21 October (Irish Times, RTÉ, Fórsa FAQ, TheJournal). Fórsa says no talks are currently taking place. A work-to-rule involving more than 100,000 workers began in September. The Government says progress needs engagement without preconditions; unions want cost-of-living issues addressed first. The previous pay deal expired in June.
Public sector workers run schools, hospitals and councils. A national strike would close many of them for a day.
Check your child's school and any hospital or council appointment for 14 October. Dates may still change if talks resume.
Unions say pay has fallen behind inflation and that they have a strong mandate.
The Government says it will talk but that any deal must be affordable and without preconditions.
The first strike is four days away. The question is whether either side moves on the agenda for talks before then.
