US stocks rise to end a record-breaking week as gold jumps 1.4%
The S&P 500 rose about 0.6% on Friday and closed at 7,811.54 (+0.59%), recovering most of two days of losses (AP via Coeur d'Alene Press; market data). The 10-year yield was around 5.24% intraday, down from Wednesday's peak near 5.365%. Gold rose 1.43% to US$4,216.3 and WTI rose 0.39% to US$91.85 (market data).
Falling yields from their peak helped shares, and gold gains show investors seeking safety as well as growth.
Pension and ETF holders saw gains on the week.
Investors cite resilient earnings and easing yields.
Sceptics warn that a 5% yield and oil near US$100 remain risks.
Yields set the tone. A return above 5.3% would put shares under pressure again.
