Ten people linked to Kenya's first Ebola case quarantined as screening gaps come under scrutiny

Ten people linked to Kenya's first Ebola case were quarantined as concern grew over screening (BBC). Reuters reported that the case exposed gaps in border screening. The Kenya Times reported that the ministry had identified 57 contacts and put flights from 10 countries under watch. The patient flew from Kampala to Nairobi on 3 October and was taken to Nairobi Hospital by relatives.

Screening that missed a very ill traveller is the weak point. If contacts develop symptoms, they could pass the virus on.

Contacts are monitored for 21 days. The public risk is low, but report fever after exposure.

Officials say the case was imported and containment is in place.

Critics say the airport screening should have caught the patient.

The number to follow is whether any of the 57 contacts tests positive. None has been confirmed in what DailyDrop has seen.
