Kipchoge wins in Melbourne and Kipruto in Chicago as Kenyan runners take Sunday's marathons
Eliud Kipchoge, 41, won the Melbourne Marathon, his first marathon win in three years, and set a course record, according to the BBC and ABC (Australia); Al Jazeera, The Straits Times and Asharq Al-Awsat also reported the win. In Chicago, Amos Kipruto won the men's race in a dominant run (The Straits Times, CNA, Telegraaf), and L'Equipe said both he and women's winner Hawi Feysa set personal bests. Sharon Lokedi was beaten into second place by Feysa, CNA reported. DailyDrop has not confirmed the finishing times.
Marathon wins by Kenyans carry prize money, sponsorship and national pride, and Kipchoge's win is his first in three years and a course record.
Sunday was a good day for Kenyan athletics; expect the winners' times to be confirmed by the race organisers on Monday.
Times are missing from our sources, so we give none. The result worth watching is Lokedi's next race after her second place.
