Dangote refinery share offer to run to 27 October, with Botswana hosting regional trading

Bloomberg reported that Botswana was chosen as the host venue for the southern African portion of the Dangote refinery IPO. Moneyweb reported that Botswana depositary receipts are expected to raise $500 million towards the refinery's $1.6 billion IPO, which has been extended to 27 October. The South African explained why Botswana was chosen over South Africa, Nairametrics reported that Dangote Group and the Botswana Stock Exchange praised the Nigerian Exchange for bringing African exchanges together, and Punch reported that Dangote will give priority to investors applying with N50,000 or less. Premium Times quoted Aliko Dangote saying the group has just entered Kenya with a $20 billion investment in another refinery; DailyDrop has seen that from one outlet.

It is the largest listing of its kind in Africa and tests whether African exchanges can pool capital for big projects.

Kenyan investors cannot buy through the Botswana venue unless they use a licensed broker with cross-border access. The Kenyan refinery claim is unconfirmed.

Watch the final subscription figures after 27 October; the Kenya refinery claim needs a second source.
