A container ship sinks near Hormuz and a second vessel is reported sinking, as officials say Iran is stepping up attacks on shipping

Reuters reported on Wednesday that a container ship had sunk near the Strait of Hormuz after being hit by a projectile, citing sources. Bloomberg, citing Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority, reported a cargo ship sinking after a strike that started a fire and forced its crew to be evacuated. The Guardian and FinancialJuice reported that a second, dry-bulk vessel was sinking after a separate hit, and the Guardian described the sharpest uptick in Iranian attacks on shipping. Reuters said officials believe Iran is shifting tactics to step up attacks before the US vote. In Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported that the Houthis vowed more attacks on airports and oil facilities after hitting Aramco's headquarters, and AP quoted Riyadh residents hearing new explosions. Reuters also reported an International Energy Agency warning that diesel shortages could last well into 2027, and Reuters and FinancialJuice that US officials are discussing easing some sanctions on shadow fleet tankers to cut freight rates.

The Strait of Hormuz is the main sea route for Gulf oil. Attacks on ships there raise insurance and freight costs and can cut supply, and diesel is the fuel that moves goods and farm machinery.

Kenya imports refined fuel through Mombasa, so Gulf shipping and diesel supply feed into the monthly review by EPRA. DailyDrop has not seen the 14 October review in its sources; check the regulator's notice for the new maximum pump prices before budgeting for transport or farm costs.

Officials cited by Reuters say Iran is stepping up attacks on shipping before the US vote.

Iran's own account was not in the reports DailyDrop saw, and the cause of each sinking rests on sources and maritime-security alerts rather than a published investigation.

Separate what is confirmed (a ship sank) from what is inferred (who fired and why). Watch the price of diesel and whether the US moves on shadow fleet sanctions.
