NZ First puts newcomers above four sitting MPs on its party list, with Winston Peters at the top
NZ First released its list on 7 October (1News, interest.co.nz, ODT, The Spinoff). Winston Peters is first, then Shane Jones, Casey Costello and Mark Patterson. Alfred Ngaro, a former National minister, is fifth, followed by Michael Laws, Harete Hipango-Brownlie, Craig Stobo and Taine Randell. Sitting MPs Jenny Marcroft, Andy Foster, David Wilson and Jamie Arbuckle are 10th to 13th, and Ron Mark is 16th.
List order decides who enters Parliament if the party wins more seats than electorates. It also shows who the leader is backing.
If you give NZ First your party vote, the list shows who your vote would bring in.
Supporters say renewal is healthy and brings experienced candidates.
Critics say it sidelines loyal MPs.
Everything depends on the party vote. At about 10% the four sit near the line; below that they fall away.
