Trump says Russia will supply diesel to the US and the world and eases sanctions to let it happen

Trump announced after a call with Putin that Russia would supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel immediately, 500,000 tons in November and a million after, with three million more depending on refineries (MercoPress, St. Louis Public Radio/NPR, The National, ORF). The Treasury issued a temporary licence for Russian-origin diesel, reported to run to April 2027. The White House did not say who would pay. Zelenskyy called it "a weak decision by strong partners".

It eases sanctions pressure on Moscow in return for fuel supply, ahead of US midterms.

More diesel on world markets could ease prices, but only if the volumes arrive.

Supporters say it eases fuel prices for households.

Critics say it rewards Russia while the war continues.

The announced figures are large but unverified. Watch whether cargoes actually move and what Brent does.
