A magnitude 7.6 earthquake strikes off southern Panama, followed by a second quake and aftershocks
A strong earthquake struck near the southern coast of Panama on 9 October (Reuters via The Star, AP, Khaleej Times, Jamaica Observer). The USGS put the first quake at 8.0, then 7.6 and later 7.7, at a depth of about 10 km. AP described a second 6.6 quake and aftershocks. Tocumen International Airport suspended operations temporarily. Damage reports differ between outlets.
