U.S. 10-year yield touches its highest since 2002; oil stays above $100 a barrel

On Wednesday, October 7, the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield rose as high as 5.36% before easing to about 5.28% after a Treasury auction, the highest level since 2002, according to AP and Reuters reports carried by The Star. Brent crude settled above $100 a barrel on Iran war-related supply concerns. The International Energy Agency agreed to speed up the release of oil stocks, prioritising diesel, and U.S. stocks pared losses. The S&P 500 fell 0.22% to 7,801.77.

High U.S. yields draw money out of emerging markets and weigh on the peso.

It keeps pressure on the peso and on Philippine loan rates.

Treasury auctions and the IEA releases are the two things to watch.
