Trump says Russia will send over 300,000 tons of diesel to the US at once, a sanctions U-turn Zelenskyy calls “a gift to Putin”
Trump posted on Truth Social on 9 October that Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel to the American and global market, followed by larger volumes (ITV News, CTV News, KSAT, Kyiv Post, Avvenire). The Treasury licensed Russian diesel imports until 7 April 2027. Zelenskyy called it a gift to Putin and a sign of weakness; the UK kept its sanctions. The White House gave no payment or delivery details.
It breaks the sanctions line on Russian energy at a time when Hormuz is shut and fuel prices are high.
If extra diesel reaches the market it could ease prices a little, and Pakistan’s refiners and importers buy at world prices.
Supporters say cheaper fuel is a priority and Russian diesel can ease a squeeze.
Critics say it rewards Russia during war and weakens pressure for peace.
