Ministry of State Assets to review Paramount Skydance’s takeover of TVN as part of its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery

The Ministry of State Assets will review the takeover of control of TVN after Paramount Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, money.pl, xyz.pl, TVP Info and Notes from Poland report. The review is carried out under rules on protecting companies deemed strategic; TVN was added to that list in 2024. The new owner should report the change after the fact, and the ministry has 90 days for an administrative procedure on the transaction’s impact on security or public order.

Minister Wojciech Balczun called it a “pure procedure” and reassured that the process is technical, not political (money.pl). The ministry may accept the ownership structure or bar the new owner from exercising control, and in an extreme case order a sale of stakes in TVN. The sources do not agree on whether Paramount has already filed a notification. DailyDrop has not seen the outcome of the procedure.

In Sierpc police detained a 17-year-old with two knives who was planning a school attack

On Wednesday, October 7, police in Sierpc, Masovia, detained a 17-year-old after a teacher reported that the student had talked about hurting someone at school, TVP Info, Eska and Notes from Poland report. The detention was announced by Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński. During a search of the home, officers found two knives packed in a case and a phone with information about a planned attack.

According to the minister, the boy searched online for information on how to organize this kind of bloody event. Eska writes that the detention also followed information from students, while the minister spoke of statements made on school grounds; the accounts are therefore not fully consistent. The case emerged on the day of the Ostrołęka attack, but there are no reports of a link between them. Police have not yet announced charges or a court decision.
