On Saturday, October 10, a 21-year-old woman, a student at a school for adults on Mińska Street in Warsaw’s Praga district, attacked three women with a knife outside the secretary’s office (TVN24, Rzeczpospolita, Interia, Polsat News). A member of the school’s staff took the knife from her and overpowered her. A 17-year-old girl was taken to hospital with cut wounds to the left hand, her life is not in danger; a 24-year-old woman was treated at the scene. Witnesses said that students barricaded themselves in a classroom and someone tried to force their way in. According to the police’s initial findings, the attack was not planned, the women did not know each other, and the motive is unknown. Police do not link the incident to the attacks in Ostrołęka and Leszczydół-Nowiny. Arab News calls it the third school attack in less than a week.
A series of incidents in one week heightens the worries of parents and teachers, even if police see no connection between the cases.
If you are a student or a parent, it is worth knowing the evacuation procedures and reporting any threats. In case of danger, call 112.
Police: this incident is separate, unplanned and unconnected to the earlier attacks, so they should not be combined into one series.
Parents and some experts: another attack shows that permanent security procedures and psychological support are needed in schools, whether or not the cases are connected.
That police do not link the incidents is important and worth repeating so as not to stoke panic. At the same time, three attacks in five days justify questions about procedures. It is worth checking whether the attacker was previously known to the school or to the authorities, and what her mental state is.
