On the afternoon of October 5, Russia struck Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs (KAB). According to Kyiv Post and Radio Svoboda, the Slobidskyi district took three hits, including on an industrial zone and next to a residential five-storey building; people may have been under the rubble, and a rescue operation was under way. Mayor Terekhov and OVA head Syniehubov updated the figures: from three dead and 25 wounded to five dead and 53 wounded (UkraNews, kurs.com.ua), and then to six and 59 (Kyiv Post). Among the wounded are children: an 11-year-old girl in serious condition. Kyiv Independent separately reported a Banderol strike on an industrial district — one person was killed and six were wounded.
Kharkiv is the country’s second-largest city, 30–40 km from the border. Guided aerial bombs fly for a short time, so there is almost no time for a warning. Constant pressure on the city directly affects the lives of more than a million people and the work of businesses.
If you have relatives in Kharkiv, learn about their safety from the official channels of the city council and the OVA, not from rumors. Fundraisers to help those affected are worth checking on the city council’s website.
Constant strikes on civilian districts are deliberate pressure on the city, with no military justification.
The city’s defenders point out that a KAB is hard to intercept: it takes air defense near the front line and long-range strikes on the carrier aircraft.
The one figure that should not be put off is the number of victims that will be officially confirmed. We are watching the OVA’s morning bulletin and whether new air defense appears in the northeast.

Russian aerial bombs hit Kharkiv: five to six dead, more than 50 wounded
A strike with guided aerial bombs on Monday, October 5, hit the Slobidskyi district. The mayor and the head of the oblast updated the figures throughout the day, so the final death toll on Tuesday morning is still being clarified.
On Monday afternoon Russia dropped guided aerial bombs on Kharkiv. According to Kyiv Post, the district took three hits: on an industrial zone and next to a residential multi-storey building. Mayor Ihor Terekhov first reported three dead and 25 wounded, a few hours later five dead and 53 wounded (UkraNews, kurs.com.ua). Kyiv Post later reported six dead and 59 wounded. Oblast Military Administration (OVA) head Oleh Syniehubov spoke of a seriously wounded 11-year-old girl, and another boy, 15, is in moderate condition.
Separately, Kyiv Independent described a “double” strike with Banderol missiles on an industrial district of the city: one person was killed, six were wounded and at least ten multi-storey buildings were damaged. The outlet sees this as proof that Russia is increasingly using fast jet-powered munitions. DailyDrop has no final figure confirmed by all sources as of Tuesday morning.
