On October 10 at 04:48 Russian aircraft dropped guided aerial bombs on a five-story residential building in Zaporizhzhia (Fedorov, Ukrainska Pravda, Slovo i Dilo). At first seven dead and ten wounded were reported, then 8 and 16; by midday the State Emergency Service had confirmed 17 dead, and as of 19:31, 20 dead, three of them children, and 18 wounded. A woman was pulled alive from the rubble after more than eight hours of searching. The search operation continued.
Guided aerial bombs let the attacker hit apartment blocks from a distance of several dozen kilometers; there is practically no time for a warning. Zaporizhzhia is a few dozen kilometers from the front line.
If you are in or near Zaporizhzhia, find out about evacuation and shelters from the OVA; do not publish photos of the dead. Help only through verified funds.
A strike on a residential building before dawn is a war crime; new sanctions and more air defense are needed.
Moscow denies that it targets civilians; there is no independent evidence for its position.
The final figures will rise as long as the search continues. For the reader the key line is the official bulletins of the State Emergency Service and the OVA, not rumors. Separately: whether Zaporizhzhia gets additional air defense, because Kramatorsk and Zaporizhzhia within three days is already a trend.
