Q3 GDP grows 9.95%, the fastest in four years; nine-month growth is 9.01%, and reaching 10% for the year requires a very strong fourth quarter

The industry and construction sector led growth, and exports of goods and services rose by more than 23%. The statistics agency says that for the full year to reach 10%, the fourth quarter needs about 12.5%.

The Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance) announced on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 3 that gross domestic product (GDP) grew 9.95% in Q3 2026 from a year earlier, higher than Q1 (8.15%) and Q2 (8.81%), according to VOV, CafeBiz and Công Thương. For the first nine months combined, GDP grew 9.01%. Some outlets describe this as the highest in the past four years, behind only Q3 2022.

The industry and construction sector grew 12.5% and contributed about 51.6% of the increase, services grew 9.54%, and agriculture, forestry and fisheries grew 4.21%. On the demand side, final consumption grew 8.96%, capital formation grew 21.39% and exports of goods and services grew 23.27%, according to outlets citing the statistics agency’s figures.

The full-year growth target is reported as 10% or higher. With 9.01% after the first nine months, many outlets calculate that Q4 needs about 12.5% growth to meet the target, and the statistics agency calls that a fairly big challenge. This is a target figure, not a result that has happened.
