Houthi missiles target Aramco's headquarters in Dhahran as Saudi-led forces strike oil depots near Sanaa and airlines cut Saudi flights
On Tuesday evening Houthi missiles targeted Saudi Aramco's headquarters in Dhahran. Bloomberg reported that the headquarters was hit, Reuters that sources heard loud booms nearby, and FinancialJuice that Iranian media said it was evacuated. FinancialJuice, citing Saudi state news and an energy ministry official, later reported that an attack on an Aramco building caused a limited fire and no casualties. The coalition said it intercepted missiles heading for Dhahran and near Haradh, and Saudi civil defence said four people were hurt and 15 homes lightly damaged in Riyadh by debris. The coalition struck oil depots and a fuel depot near Sanaa after telling civilians to leave an oil site (Reuters, Bloomberg, FinancialJuice). Qatar Airways halted Riyadh and Dammam flights and Etihad cancelled Abu Dhabi–Riyadh services until 19 October (FinancialJuice, Antara, AD, Der Spiegel). FinancialJuice put Brent's Tuesday settlement at $105.69 and US crude at $94.14; Reuters said prices rose in Asian trading on Wednesday.
An attack on the headquarters of the world's largest oil exporter, and Saudi strikes on Yemeni oil sites, put both sides' energy infrastructure in play at a moment when shipping near Hormuz is also reported to be under fire.
Kenya imports refined fuel, so a sustained rise in crude can reach pump prices. EPRA normally announces new maximum pump prices on the 14th, which is today; DailyDrop has not seen the figures. If your journey runs through Gulf hubs or Saudi airports, check your airline before leaving for the airport, and Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia should follow their embassy's advice.
Riyadh says the Houthis will face consequences, and Trump says they are trying to push up oil prices before the US midterm elections (FinancialJuice, Reuters).
The Houthis call Aramco facilities legitimate targets and warned that any attack on Sanaa would meet a harsh response in Riyadh (FinancialJuice).
Separate the claims from the confirmed: the limited fire at an Aramco building rests on Saudi state news as relayed by one feed, and the two deaths at a Red Sea oil port are a Houthi-run ministry's claim. Watch today's EPRA review and whether the airlines extend their Saudi suspensions beyond 19 October.
