The FBM KLCI closed at 1,611.78 on Wednesday, down 21.57 points or 1.32% (Bernama reported figures; The Star; Business Today). At 12.30pm it was down 19.39 points with banks leading. An analyst said foreign investors had been net sellers for ten sessions. Brent briefly topped US02 in the morning. The October futures fell 17.50 points shortly after the open.
It is the sharpest one-day fall since this edition began and came two days before the Budget.
If you hold shares or funds, the move is small in the context of a month, but it shows nerves.
Analysts quoted in the coverage pointed to oil and Budget nerves rather than company news.
The fall came on a day when oil and US bond yields were volatile, so the cause may be global rather than local.
Foreign selling is the thing to watch. The Budget on Friday could either end or extend it.

KLCI drops 1.3% to 1,611.78 as oil prices and Budget nerves hit banks
It was the sharpest one-day fall since this edition began on 5 October, with foreign investors said to be net sellers for ten sessions in a row.
The FBM KLCI closed at 1,611.78 on Wednesday 7 October, down 21.57 points or 1.32% from 1,633.35, according to Bernama’s figures reported the next day. The Star said the index dropped sharply on rising oil prices, and Business Today said it slipped at the open as Budget 2027 loomed. At 12.30pm it was down 19.39 points at 1,613.96, with heavyweight banks leading the fall, The Star reported.
An analyst quoted in the coverage said foreign investors had been net sellers on Bursa Malaysia for ten consecutive trading days. Brent briefly topped US$102 in Asian morning trading before settling lower in New York, according to an AP-based market report. DailyDrop did not find a single official explanation, so the oil and Budget links are the reasons analysts gave, not facts. The October futures contract fell 17.50 points to 1,611.0 shortly after the open.
