Houthi missile strike on Riyadh’s airport on Saturday kills 12 and injures more than 300, Saudi authorities say; Pakistan’s defence pact faces its sharpest test

The attack, the deadliest of the week, follows strikes on the same airport on Wednesday and Thursday. Islamabad has pledged support under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement but denies offensive action.

A Houthi missile strike hit Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Saturday 10 October, killing 12 people and injuring more than 300, Saudi authorities said, according to The New York Times, the Financial Times and the Mirror. The Houthis claimed the attack; their claims are not independently verified. It follows earlier strikes this week: Saudi aviation authorities reported three killed and 36 injured across the Riyadh and Abha airports on 7 October, and three Saudi citizens, including a Saudia pilot, killed in attacks on Riyadh on Thursday, per Al Jazeera and the Associated Press.

For Pakistan, the pact signed with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in August makes the escalation a domestic matter. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the earlier attacks on Friday and said Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi security was firm; the Information Ministry has rejected a New York Times report that Pakistani jets are striking the Houthis, and the military says its personnel are in the kingdom without giving numbers. DailyDrop did not find a new Pakistani statement on Saturday’s strike before 05:00.

Swabi Interchange today: PTI’s promised “final plan” comes at the end of a march that has run for a week

The PTI long march is due to reach Swabi on Sunday 11 October, where Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said the party will unveil its “final plan”, according to Dawn, The Express Tribune, ARY News and Minute Mirror. The march demands the release of Imran Khan, the jailed party founder. Afridi has invited supporters from across the country to the Swabi Interchange and said participants will stay overnight. The schedule had the convoy in Mardan on Saturday; DailyDrop did not find a confirmed account of the Mardan stop from two outlets.

The Express Tribune reported on Friday, citing sources, that the Centre has finalised preparations for an emergency in 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which PTI called a violation of the 18th Amendment. No order had been issued by early Sunday. The government’s line remains that the march will not be allowed into Islamabad; the M-1 motorway toward the capital has been closed and Punjab has placed hundreds of containers on key routes, according to The Express Tribune and ARY News.

Trump says again he “settled eight wars” as the Nobel peace row with Navi Pillay continues

Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on 8 October that he had settled eight wars and that not honouring him would discredit the Nobel Committee, Gulf News, Deccan Chronicle and Times of Oman reported. After the committee chose Navi Pillay on Friday, he re-shared a post attacking the choice; on Saturday 10 October he posted again on Truth Social, repeating that he settled eight wars in a rant about not winning the prize.

Pillay joked in a video that she might share the prize with Trump if people clapped a little more, The Wrap and the Daily Beast reported. The committee has not answered Trump’s posts in anything DailyDrop saw. Trump has also repeatedly claimed credit for ending the India–Pakistan conflict, Deccan Herald noted.

Zelenskyy says Russia “thanked” the US for easing diesel sanctions with guided bombs on Zaporizhzhia homes

The row over Trump’s announcement of Russian diesel supplies has continued. After saying on Friday that “gifts to Putin will not bring peace”, ITV News, UNN, Liga.net and Kurs.com.ua reported, Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram on Saturday 10 October that Russia had “thanked” the United States for easing diesel sanctions by dropping guided bombs on homes in Zaporizhzhia. DailyDrop has not independently verified the strike.

The Treasury licence allows Russian diesel imports until 7 April 2027, and Downing Street has said UK sanctions stay. Whether extra diesel reaches the market is still unclear; for Pakistan, which buys at world prices, the Strait of Hormuz closure matters more than any single cargo.
