The PTI convoy under Sohail Afridi reached Mattani on the outskirts of Peshawar late on Tuesday 6 October and stayed the night (Dawn). Before leaving Kohat he spoke at University Chowk and criticised the Centre’s counter-terrorism policy. The next stop is Khyber, then Peshawar, a change from the original plan that Afridi said followed a request from Khyber residents (Minute Mirror). Khairabad on Thursday 8 October remains the date for Afridi’s announcement. No clashes were reported.
The detour buys time and keeps momentum without forcing a confrontation yet. It also moves the convoy through districts that have seen heavy militant activity, which raises the security stakes.
Expect heavy traffic and security checks around Peshawar.
PTI frames the route as responding to the people it passes through.
The government calls the march a pressure tactic.
Thursday is the pivot. A convoy that keeps growing makes talks easier for the government to accept; one that thins makes an emergency more tempting.

PTI convoy camps at Mattani on the edge of Peshawar and turns towards Khyber before the city
New since Monday: the march left Kohat, crossed into the Peshawar area on Tuesday night and will visit Khyber first. Afridi’s next announcement is still due at Khairabad on Thursday.
The convoy led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reached Mattani, on the outskirts of Peshawar, late on Tuesday 6 October and stopped there for the night, Dawn reported. Before leaving Kohat, Afridi addressed supporters at University Chowk and criticised the federal government over its counter-terrorism policy. The next leg heads to Khyber and, after that, Peshawar, according to Minute Mirror and Dawn.
That is a detour from the schedule announced on Sunday, which had the convoy move directly from Kohat to Peshawar. Afridi said the change followed requests from people in Khyber. The march is meant to press for the release of the jailed party founder, Imran Khan. PTI still says the convoy will gather at Khairabad, near the Punjab border, on Thursday 8 October, where Afridi has promised to announce the party’s next course of action. No clash had been reported. The federal government’s position is unchanged: no march on Islamabad.
