Sisi chairs the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, urges commitment to Trump’s Gaza plan and pledges to defend Egypt’s rights on the Nile

The meeting was held at Strategic Command headquarters in the Administrative Capital as part of the 53rd anniversary celebrations of the October War, and the president stressed the highest levels of combat readiness.

President Sisi chaired a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces at the Strategic Command headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, according to Egypt Today, and stressed maintaining the highest levels of combat readiness; the council reviewed regional and international developments and their implications for national security. The Egypt Today item is dated October 6, while the Daily News Egypt link is dated October 5, so we give the day as Monday, going by the second.

Daily News Egypt reported that Sisi urged full commitment to US President Donald Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in Gaza, rejected any attempts at the forced displacement of Palestinians, said an independent Palestinian state is the only guarantee of lasting peace, and pledged to defend Egypt’s historic rights to the waters of the Nile by every means international law allows. Reports indicated that the meeting also addressed the economic situation and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

Two prominent themes of the Alamein summit declaration the day before yesterday recurred in this meeting: the waters of the Nile and Red Sea security. We have not seen the full text of what was said inside the meeting; what we know is what the two outlets published. What we are watching today: anything the presidency issues on the anniversary of the October War, and any official position on Ethiopia.

Today is the October Victory anniversary, but the official holiday is Thursday, October 8: banks and the exchange close Thursday and reopen Sunday

The anniversary of the October Victory of 1973 falls today, Tuesday, October 6, but the official holiday marking Armed Forces Day for employees of the state administrative apparatus has been moved to Thursday, October 8, 2026, according to Egypt Today and Ahram Online. The holiday covers ministries, public bodies, local administration units and public sector companies, as Egypt Today relayed from a decision by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly; the decision was announced days ago and is not new today.

The Central Bank of Egypt announced that banks operating in Egypt will close on Thursday, October 8 and resume work on Sunday, October 11, according to Ahram Online. The Egyptian Exchange, for its part, announced that Thursday is an official holiday and that trading resumes on Sunday, October 11, according to Arab Finance. Labor Minister Hassan Radad announced a paid holiday for private-sector workers on the same day, with double pay or a substitute day for those required to work, according to Ahram Online.

That means Wednesday, October 7 is the last trading and banking day of the week, and Friday and Saturday are the usual weekend. In DailyDrop’s reading, anyone with a banking transaction or papers that need a bank should complete them before the end of Wednesday. Today, Tuesday, is an ordinary working day at banks and the exchange, according to what we have seen in these reports.

Unverified — what we could not confirm

“The dollar at 50.17 pounds to buy at the National Bank of Egypt.” A figure that appeared on a page of the Banker News site dated October 3. Prices from Youm7, Al Khaleej and Al Dostour for the same days are close to 52.2–52.4 pounds, so the figure does not match the rest and we do not rely on it.
