On Truth Social, Trump announced a deal with Putin: Russia would immediately deliver more than 300,000 tons of diesel, 500,000 in November and one million afterward (Yahoo, El Español, Xataka, El Economista). OFAC issued a temporary general license exempting the trade until April 2027 (Portafolio). Diesel futures fell 4.5%. Zelensky called it a “gift to Putin” (Xataka). The figures are announcements, not verified deliveries.
Diesel moves freight and passenger transport. If more Russian supply reaches the market, the world price could fall, but the deal touches on sanctions and the war in Ukraine, and it can be reversed.
If you depend on transport, cheaper diesel could ease freight costs and fares, but the effect in Peru has not been measured. There is a lag of weeks between the world price and the pump.
For its defenders, more supply lowers prices and relieves consumers at a time of expensive oil.
For critics such as Zelensky, easing sanctions benefits Russia while the war continues.
An announcement is worth what gets delivered. We need to see whether the cargoes ship, whether diesel futures hold their drop, and whether the US or Ukraine respond. WTI crude was already near $92 because of Hormuz; Russian diesel does not resolve that tension.

Portafolio reports that the US sanctions office (OFAC) issued a temporary general license exempting trade in Russian diesel from sanctions until April 2027. Diesel futures in New York fell 4.5%. Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the deal as a “gift to Putin” (Xataka).
