Saffron Maya Snook wins the Miss Global 2026 crown, the first Thai woman to take the title

The final was held at MCC Hall in The Mall Lifestore Ngamwongwan. Thai media reported the result from early Monday, while the number of contestants and the runners-up were not found in the reports reviewed

Khaosod, Matichon, Thairath, Army Channel 5 and the website Vietnam.vn report consistently that Saffron Maya Snook, a Thai-British woman representing Thailand, received the Miss Global 2026 crown. Khaosod and Khaosod English call it the country’s “first crown,” meaning she is the first Thai woman to win the title on this stage. Khaosod reported the story at 6:53 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, Thai time, and said the pageant ended at MCC Hall in The Mall Lifestore Ngamwongwan.

Khaosod English says the organizer is TPN Global, led by Piyaporn “Mae Pui” Sankosik. Pageant followers should know that Miss Global is one of several international stages, not Miss Universe, and that the title won this time belongs to Miss Global only. The exact date and start time of the final, the number of contestants, the runners-up, and the prizes the winner received were not found in the news summaries reviewed, so we do not state them.

In the same field, Matichon and Bangkok Insight report that “Ning Pattama,” Thailand’s representative, finished fifth runner-up at Miss Grand International 2026, while the Miss Grand crown went to a beauty from Tanzania (Matichon). Readers who want clarity on the prizes and the list of finalists should wait for an announcement from the organizers or from outlets that carry full details.

IMF–World Bank meetings, day one: PM says attendance tops 18,000; Georgieva says AI is propping up 3% global growth but weighing on the labor market

Khaosod and Prachachat Turakij report that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul opened the “The Royal Legacy” exhibition at the Chaloem Phra Kiat Pavilion, Sirikit Convention Center, promoted the sufficiency economy philosophy, and said the World Bank president and the IMF praised Thailand for hosting the event. Participants totaled more than 18,000 (Khaosod, TNN), but Matichon reported earlier that there were 15,000 from 191 countries, so the figure still differs by time of reporting. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas joined in opening the Thai pavilion, showcasing the AI system “Nok Krasip,” a merchant adviser with nearly 1 million users (Matichon).

Kristalina Georgieva, IMF Managing Director, likened AI to a “slow-moving tsunami” that helps the world economy grow about 3% but cuts entry-level jobs and makes it hard for new graduates to find work (Khaosod, Prachachat Turakij, Bangkok Post, Reuters). Prachachat Turakij says the IMF presented evidence that demand for hiring has fallen about 10% because of AI and automation. The World Bank promoted “Small AI” as an engine of job creation (Matichon, Prachachat Turakij). Sihasak said the US Treasury Secretary is not coming (Khaosod), while PPTV reported that the US sent a Treasury Department team to take part.

Met Department warns of heavy to very heavy rain Oct. 12–13; Prachinburi deaths reach 25; Bangkok cuts flood-hit areas to 8 districts

Khaosod and Matichon report that the Thai Meteorological Department issued Announcement No. 11 warning of heavy to very heavy rain, flash floods, runoff floods and strong gusts through Oct. 13. Thai PBS says this announcement warned 9 southern provinces. Thai Post later reported that the department expanded the area to 32 provinces, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, at risk of flooding on Oct. 13, and PPTV reported Announcement No. 12. The Bangkok Post says the department expects heavy rain to return to Bangkok and surrounding provinces on Tuesday.

In Prachinburi, Khaosod reports that flooding is still critical, with 25 people dead from drowning and electric shock, 7 districts under water, and nearly 60,000 households affected. Supamas visited the area, ordered relief to be speeded up and told the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) to keep goods prices in check. The provincial chamber of commerce proposed 7 recovery measures to the Cabinet and asked that factories be checked for chemical leaks (Matichon). The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) said Bangkok and 20 provinces are still affected by flooding, mostly in the central region (Bangkok Post).

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said it has cut flood-hit areas to 8 districts and is opening up to take in outside water for drainage (Siam Rath, Khaosod, Matichon), while Thai Post reported 1 spot still under standing water, a different way of counting. Prachachat Turakij reports that Bangkok has approved relief payments through the “Thang Rat” app for 88,198 households, totaling 649.4 million baht, while the DDPM and the Government Savings Bank have transferred 221.8 million baht to 30,492 families; the Bangkok Post says the BMA has collected more than 10,000 tonnes of flood garbage. People in risk areas should follow local announcements and prepare essentials.

Social Security board count complete, turnout tops one million, Progressive team sweeps 14 seats; officials give 30 days to certify the results

Prachachat Turakij reports that the Social Security Office (SSO) announced a complete unofficial count from all 5,233 units nationwide, with 1.003 million voters; the employer side rose 733% and the insured-persons side 533% from the 2023 election. Matichon used the 533% figure in its headline, but Thairath reported employers up 632% and insured persons up 423%. The percentages therefore differ by outlet and by reporting round. What agrees is that turnout exceeded one million, far above some of the figures reported yesterday.

The Progressive Social Security Team swept both the employer and insured-person sides, winning 14 seats (Matichon, Thai Post, BBC Thai). Khaosod reports that with 90% counted the team had more than 800,000 votes, while Panas Thai Luan’s team trailed far behind. Panas conceded, blamed workers who promised to vote but did not, and set a lessons-learned meeting for Oct. 18 (Matichon, Khaosod). Julapun Amornvivat, the Minister of Labor, congratulated the winners, insisted that the ministry ran the election without interference, and said the board follows the tripartite principle (Prachachat Turakij, Matichon).

Jeerapa Boonrat, SSO Secretary-General, said the office will check the winners’ qualifications and announce the official results within 30 days; the figures may change until recording is finished (Khaosod). The Progressive team unveiled 77 policies in plans for 7 days, 1 year and 2 years, covering pensions, unemployment benefits and medical costs (Prachachat Turakij), and called on society to “scrutinize us too” (Matichon).

Kremlin rejects Zelensky’s 60-day ceasefire proposal; Kyiv says Russia is still attacking energy sites despite Trump’s announced “energy ceasefire”

Reuters reports that the Kremlin rejected Zelensky’s idea of a 60-day ceasefire, saying it wants a full peace agreement. Thairath reports that Moscow remains silent on the energy ceasefire Trump announced on Sunday. Thai PBS reports that Zelensky said the future of a leader is for the people to decide and that he is ready to hold elections if Putin halts fire for 60 days. Zelensky posted on Telegram that Ukraine did not strike energy plants in Russia the previous night because Trump said there would be an energy ceasefire, and that Ukraine supports the deal (Zelensky’s Telegram).

AP and Reuters report that Kyiv says Russia is still attacking energy plants, while Ukrinform quotes Zelensky as saying Russia hit 6 Ukrainian energy plants that day, a statement from the Ukrainian side for which no independent outlet has confirmed the figure. The European Union added nearly 1,600 entries to its Russia sanctions list (Reuters). Trump defended the diesel deal with Russia amid criticism from lawmakers of both parties (Reuters, CNBC, Thairath). Thai readers should watch oil prices, because the deal involves diesel imports.
