Flávio Bolsonaro and Abelardo de la Espriella spoke by video call. Bolsonaro proposed an agreement against drug trafficking that includes sharing intelligence and coordinating arrests and extraditions on the Amazon border (Cambio, NTN24, Publimetro, Noticias RCN, Minuto30). De la Espriella backed the proposal. The sources differ on whether the call was on Tuesday or on Wednesday, October 7. Publimetro says the Colombian president spoke Portuguese. It is a campaign offer: it would depend on the result of October 25.
An anti-drug agreement between two right-wing governments in Colombia and Brazil would change regional cooperation and policy toward the cartels. It also shows how the Brazilian campaign crosses borders.
There are no immediate effects. If Bolsonaro wins, there could be more joint operations in the Amazon and on the routes into Brazil, with impacts for border communities.
For its defenders, coordinating intelligence is the only effective way to confront networks that cross borders.
For its critics, a sitting president should not join another country’s campaign, and an anti-drug pact centered on force has shown limits in the region.
It is a conditional promise: there is no pact without the runoff. Watch the polls in Brazil, the reaction of Lula’s campaign, and whether Colombia sets human-rights or sovereignty conditions on any eventual cooperation.

Flávio Bolsonaro asked De la Espriella for a pact against drug trafficking before the October 25 runoff
In a video call, the Brazilian candidate proposed sharing intelligence and coordinating arrests and extraditions on the Amazon border. Colombia’s president backed the idea.
According to Cambio, NTN24, Publimetro, Noticias RCN and Minuto30, Flávio Bolsonaro, who will contest Brazil’s runoff on October 25 against Lula da Silva, spoke by video call with President Abelardo de la Espriella and asked for cooperation against drug trafficking. He proposed sharing intelligence on who the traffickers are, where they operate and how they move, and working on the capture and extradition of criminals along the Amazon border, about 1,600 kilometers long. According to the reports, De la Espriella said drug trafficking is a global problem and that he backed the proposal.
The sources do not agree on the day: NTN24 says a Tuesday and Publimetro a Wednesday, October 7. Publimetro headlined that the Colombian president spoke Portuguese in the conversation. The gesture comes after De la Espriella wrote on X in support of Bolsonaro following the first round. DailyDrop saw no reaction from Lula’s team or from Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, and a formal collaboration would only be possible if Bolsonaro wins.
